Adapting, Not Stopping: Staying Active During Connecticut's Summer Heat
The recent stretch of extreme heat in Connecticut has been a great reminder that progress isn't about pushing through every obstacle—it's about learning how to adapt.
At One 2 One Coaching, we believe consistency is more important than perfection. When temperatures climb into the 90s, we don't cancel our goals—we adjust our approach.

This week, that has meant starting our days earlier, scheduling activities later in the evening, taking more breaks, staying hydrated, and finding creative ways to remain active while avoiding the hottest parts of the day.
Many of the individuals we work with, including young adults, student-athletes, and members of the neurodivergent community, benefit tremendously from maintaining routines. Exercise, time outdoors, and structured activities play an important role in both physical and mental well-being. Rather than letting the weather interrupt those routines, we modify them to fit the conditions.
Some simple ways to stay active during periods of extreme heat include:
Plan outdoor activities for the early morning or evening.
Bring plenty of water and take hydration breaks often.
Wear lightweight, breathable clothing and seek shade whenever possible.
Shorten activities if needed and pay attention to signs of overheating.
Consider indoor alternatives when temperatures become unsafe.
One of the most valuable life skills we can teach is adaptability. Whether it's navigating challenging weather, unexpected setbacks, or changes in life, success often comes from learning to adjust rather than giving up.
The heat won't last forever, but the habits we build during challenging moments will.
Stay safe, stay hydrated, and keep moving forward—one step at a time.
