When Coaches Make the Differenceš
When I was younger, therapy wasnāt the right choice for me. I donāt say that to dismiss its valueāI know how powerful it can be for many peopleābut at that stage in my life, it didnāt connect with me the way I needed.
The people who truly shaped me, guided me, and pushed me to grow werenāt sitting across from me in an office. They were out on the field, in the gym, and on the court. My football, basketball, and sports coaches had the biggest impact on me.
Coaches taught me lessons that went far beyond the game: discipline, resilience, teamwork, accountability. They showed me that setbacks are temporary, that effort matters, and that leadership isnāt about being the loudest voiceāitās about lifting others up.
Looking back, I realize those practices and games werenāt just about sports. They were about life. The encouragement, structure, and belief my coaches gave me filled a space that therapy couldnāt reach at that time.
Itās a reminder that mentorship can come in many forms. For some, healing and growth might come through therapy. For others, it could be a trusted teacher, a mentor, or a coach. What matters most is finding those voices that push you forward and help you see what youāre capable of.
